The Standard

The Standard. With a name like that you expect a place to deliver. This new jazz club right in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark, does just that.

This “new cultural and gastronomic landmark” is the work of Danish entrepreneur Claus Meyer and boasts 3 world-class restaurants.

The Standard, set in a historical building in Copenhagen

The building itself is an historical gem, dating back to 1937. I just love the silvered green exterior. This sophisticated and muted palette continues inside with the structure and texture of the furnishings defining spaces and mood.

With plenty of glass and blue-grey hues, the space is given depth by trees liberally placed and rising at varying heights. I love to the lights and the use of black painted metal and buffed brass. It is an interior that would work well day or night and allows clusters and intimacy in a large space.

The interior together with Meyer was designed by the Danish-Italian design duo, GamFratesi and features their newly released Beetle Chair.

World famous jazz musician Niels Lan Doky was also involved in the project of transforming this old customs house and I think the mix of perspectives has created a confident and decisive space. See more on the source of these photographs here.
